West End Women’s Heritage Walk

Saturday, 19th August, 2017, 2:00pm to 4:00pm

£6.00 – £10.00
Without the phenomenal efforts of Jessie Campbell, Janet Galloway and Isabella Elder, educational opportunities for women in Glasgow in the late 19th and early 20th century would have been radically different.

Glasgow’s West End, the home of rousing radicals, tireless teachers and steadfast suffragettes!

West End Women’s Heritage Walk, Saturday 19th August, 2pm to 4pm, Meet outside Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum

Our West End Women’s Heritage Walk shares the story of remarkable, unsung women; a story of protesting, rallying activists, and of the rent strikers and “wild women” who built this part of Glasgow and whose contribution can still be felt today.  Hear about formidable Rachel Johnston, a pipe-smoking labourer and special constable, and pay a visit to the Suffrage Oak on Kelvinway.

It’s time to reveal the hidden history of the women of the West End…

We’ve launched a new Stamp as you Stomp loyalty card – get yours on this walk and if you do all six heritage walks, you’ll get a special GWL treat!

“I love the walk. A very well-researched and well-presented and great fun way to spend an afternoon” – Tour participant
