Transformations- Risograph workshop

Thursday, 7th October, 2021, 7:00pm to 9:00pm

Free

As we mark our 30th anniversary we are inviting our regular event participants, learners, volunteers and friends to join us for a creative risograph printing workshop to explore and share what difference GWL has made to our lives.

About the workshop:Photo showing a card which reads "How to riso print" surrounded by colourful paper and printed materials

Artist and facilitator Helen de Main, who has worked with GWL many times over the years, will be facilitating a relaxed online workshop, supporting and encouraging participants to explore and share how GWL has benefited them, and to create a postcard-sized print to express this in colour, shapes and writing.

Helen is an experienced facilitator who will guide you through the whole process, so no previous experience is needed and we will provide all the materials you need ahead of the workshop (by post).

We’ll also include a self-addressed envelope so that you can return your work to us for finishing and printing. After printing we will post you a few copies of your artwork and keep one for our archive.

The artworks you create will also contribute to research being carried out by the University of Strathclyde which looks into how GWL can improve the well-being of the women who access our services.   We are therefore asking workshop participants to agree to taking part in short audio-recorded conversations with one of the researchers after the workshop.

More information about the research and what taking part means for you can be found in the Participant Information Sheet below. You will be asked to complete and sign the Consent Form when taking part in the workshop.  Please read these carefully before signing up for a workshop and let us know if you have any questions.

How to take part?

The workshop will be run twice on Zoom. You only need to come to one session. Both workshops are free.

Materials will be posted to you ahead of the workshop. We will also email you a link to join the workshop via Zoom, along with instructions for using Zoom if this is new to you.

  • If you would like to attend the workshop on Thursday 30th September 2pm to 4pm please book a ticket by following this link.
  • If you would like to attend the workshop on Thursday 7th October, 7pm to 9pm, please book a ticket below. Booking for this event has now closed

You will also be asked to give your consent for your creation to be used by the researchers at the University of Strathclyde, and to take part in a short audio-recorded conversation at a time which suits you with one of the researchers when you can briefly explain how your artwork reflects your experiences at GWL. This can be done in person, on the phone or via Zoom/MS Teams and will take place around the start of November.

These workshops are possible thanks to funding from the Leverhulme Trust who are funding the research project led by the team of academics at Strathclyde University: Kathy Hamilton, Holly Porteous, Sarah Edwards and Juliette Wilson.

We are grateful for the support of Wild & Kind Studios, a Bridgeton-based women run ethical garment print, risograph print and embroidery studio. They have kindly provided discounted materials and printing: https://wildandkind.com/
