Created by Ukrainian composer, sound artist and researcher Anna Khvyl with dramaturg Piotr Armianovski, this sound walk is part of Time Based: Sonic Interventions — a festival of experimental music and sound art from Ukraine and Scotland.
Walkers in Glasgow wear headphones and enter a shared acoustic space, becoming a part of a temporary nomadic acoustic community. Participants depart together from the chosen location, while online audiences join the internet broadcast from anywhere in the world.
Through the shared sonic space and synchronised movement, the aim is to enhance the sense of interconnectedness and collective belonging. This sound walk uses a unique delivery method: a network of online radio stations, to create a shared space within the sonic environment without referring to a specific territory.
Anna Khvyl is a Ukrainian sound artist, composer, DJ, educator and researcher. Her work explores the relationship between sound and commemoration, focusing on how music creates spaces for social bonding and self-discovery. Working across sound installations, audiovisual compositions, multichannel live performances, audiowalks, radio, podcasts, film, theatre, and sound design, Anna also leads workshops (for adults and teenagers) on electronic music, dj-ing and acoustic ecology that are designed to help those who have suffered from the trauma of war and loss.
Time Based: Sonic Interventions is funded by the British Council’s International Collaboration Grants, and is curated by Arts & Parts (UK) and Time Based (UA).
