The minute you walk in you’re made to feel welcome and you’re spoken to. It gives a lasting impression that helps.”

Turning 30 has put us in reflective mood! And we’re eager to share what we’re learning with anyone who’s interested in our work or who’s also working with individuals and communities to challenge inequality.

This Is Who We Are: 30 Years of Transformations, Thursday 3rd November, 6pm to 7:30pm, GWL, Free

At this talk you’ll hear from researchers from Strathclyde University and Library colleagues about some of the “special ingredients” that make GWL a transformative environment for those who access it.

The research team from Strathclyde University, Kathy Hamilton, Holly Porteous, Sarah Edwards and Juliette Wilson, will present some of the findings from a 2 year project which culminated in March 2022.  Their research included hours of delving into our archive, dozens of interviews, attending events, and gathering creative responses to answer the following questions:

What impact has GWL had on individuals, groups and communities in the past 30 years?

Which “special ingredients” contribute to making GWL a transformative environment for the people who access it?

What can be learnt from GWL’s approach to women’s empowerment, inclusion and wellbeing?

As well as hearing from the research team, GWL staff and volunteers will talk about their work in relation to GWL’s “special ingredients”.

They [GWL] have really given me the belief that thing can change because I can see that they’ve done it and I want to part of it with them”. Research participant, from the report “The Transformative Space of the Library”

We’ll also offer a short tour of the building for those who haven’t had one yet.
