The Secret Garden’ is a series of gentle creative writing workshops for women, run by Glasgow Women’s Library and held in Johnstone Terrace Gardens – Edinburgh’s own secret escape in the heart of the city.
Facilitated by feminist poet Nadine Aisha Jassat, these workshops are designed for participants to come together in the Secret Garden’s Palm House, and explore and connect to their writing through a series of prompts, discussion, and writing activities, inspired by and responding to the nature and space around them.
Come retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city outside and explore where your writing will take you in The Secret Garden!
“If you look the right way, you can see that the whole world is a garden.” Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Secret Garden
Run by Glasgow Women’s Library with the support of Edinburgh Art Festival. This event is for all who identify as women of any age.
The garden is located just off the Patrick Geddes Steps/ Castle Wynd South. If you’d like to discuss or get advice or guidance on how to access Johnstone Terrace Garden you can contact Edinburgh Art Festival on 0131 226 6558, or email Nadine.Jassat@womenslibrary.org.uk.
You can also contact Morag, Rebecca or Nadine at Glasgow Women’s Library on 0141 550 2267.
Please note: the garden has no electricity, and so tea and coffee will not be provided though participants are welcome to bring their own flasks. There are throws at the Palm House and it can get quite warm, however in our unpredictable Scottish weather an extra jumper never goes amiss! Although there are not toilets in the garden, there are public toilets nearby.
