To tie in with the Sex in the Women’s Library season our regular book group invite you to join them in discussing The Awakening (1899) by Kate Chopin.
The Awakening’s uninhibited treatment of female passion and marital infidelity deeply shocked its first audiences, and it fell out of print for decades. Rescued from obscurity in the 1960s, the novel was hailed as a classic by the second wave feminist movement, and remains a seductive and engaging read today.
Please ensure you have read The Awakening prior to attending the meeting. We have a copy in our collection for borrowing or you could contact your local Library to see if they have one available to borrow. You can also download a copy for free in several formats, including Kindle, from Project Gutenberg: www.gutenberg.org.
This special Book Group is free to attend and you can book below (you will be taken through the shopping cart but no charge will be made) or you can call us on 0141 550 2267. If you book a place but can no longer attend please let us know so we can make the place available for someone else.
