When: Friday 8th of September at 11.30 AM

Who With: Aike and Jessica

Why you should join us? This will be a great opportunity to go on a trip to Edinburgh together and visit two exciting exhibitions of this year’s Art Festival there. We will have the chance to enjoy guided tours for Kate Davis’ “Nudes Never Wear Glasses” exhibition at Stills as well as “True to Life: British Realist Painting in the 1920s and 1930s” at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.

True To Life is an exhibition at the National Gallery which will feature British realist painters from the 1920s and 1930s. Many of them were leading figures in the art world during their lifetime but are rarely remembered today, as abstract art became more fashionable. However, these incredibly detailed realist paintings are impressive, very technical and beautiful to see. We will have the chance to rediscover this work during our tour which will be specifically tailored for Seeing Things to focus on the female painters who are featured in this exhibition.

Kate Davis has already been involved with Glasgow Women’s Library for the 21 Revolutions project to which she contributed wonderful artwork. Her exhibition Nudes Never Wear Glasses at Stills will feature her film Charity and other forms of media, including drawings, photography and bookworks, which we can explore as part of our tour.

As always, there will be a tea and coffee break after each visit to relax, have a chat and discuss what we saw.

Seeing Things will meet at Glasgow Queen Street Station at 11.30am to take the 11.45am train to Edinburgh Waverly Station. Look out for our GWL sign around the main seating area in the main hall of the station! We will take the train back to Glasgow together around 4.30pm. Please note that travel costs to and from Edinburgh are covered. We also have a small budget to cover individual expenses to get to Glasgow Queen Street.  If necessary, it’s possible to join us for just one exhibition in Edinburgh and to return to Glasgow earlier. Please let us know which option you would prefer so we can make travel arrangements for you.
