Welcome to Readers of Colour. We usually meet in Edinburgh at Lighthouse books but for the rest of 2020, we are meeting online!
We meet on the last Wednesday of every month to discuss poetry, fiction, graphic novels, essays and narrative non-fiction by women and non-binary writers of colour. Past sessions have focused on folklore by Zora Neale Hurston (followed by sharing our own!), short film by Nida Manzoor, and poetry by Imtiaz Dharker. Come join us!
This month, we have a special guest who will be zooming in to us from Cape Town, South Africa, Deirdre Prins-Solani. Deirdre is one of the creatives that Nadine Aisha Jassat, the facilitator of Readers of Colour, met earlier this year at Cape Town’s women’s library, Woman Zone. She has done phenomenal work in the area of heritage and museums, and also released a pamphlet of poetry earlier this Summer. We’ll be listening to/ reading Deirdre’s creative work and listening to her thoughts on the value of arts and the role of creatives, followed by a chat and Q&A with Deirdre herself. We’ll also be listening to music from the wonderful Tina Schouw.
Attendance is free, and the reading group is a great opportunity to meet new people, exchange and share conversations and ideas, and share passion for writing by women of colour.
“Thank you for convening this beautiful and illuminating group” – Readers of Colour attendee
