Project X: Dance workshop, Saturday 12th August, 1pm to 3.30pm, Women only

Credit: ‘Grin’ October 2016 by Mele Broomes

In this workshop we will be learning traditional and contemporary dances of the African diaspora and exploring their cultural connections. From Kuku and Hoofing to Tap, Dancehall and Hip Hop, we will discover a hidden history of dance one “step” at a time!

This Senegalese dance workshop will be led by Eva Goudiaby. Eva will teach a fast paced, high energy, West African dance sequence. Her graceful and cheeky style of dance and her clear, confident teaching manner never fails to impress. Be prepared to move your body lots and potentially join in for a song or two!

Eva Goudiaby is from Casamance, Senegal. She grew up in Dakar and became part of Ballet Fambody, the second ballet of the Ballet National de Senegal. She was picked as a dancer for AfrikaAfrika and came to Europe to tour for many years. Eva now lives and works in Glasgow and teaches and performs regularly around the country. You may have seen her spectacular performances at various events including African Beats Camp, African Drum Village or with Ballet Nimba.

The first dance workshop, led by Erick Valentin Mauicia will take place on Thursday 10th August and previous to these, Project X will be screening an African dance film curated by Africa in Motion Film Festival on Thursday 3rd August.

See all Project X events at GWL here and follow the project on Facebook here.
