Explore archive materials and pictures which document the beginnings of Glasgow Women’s Library, during this session hosted in a temporary project space on Sauchiehall Street.
In 1987, Women in Profile, a broad-based arts organisation, was set up with the aim of ensuring the representation of women’s culture during Glasgow’s year as the European City of Culture in 1990. Based in a dilapidated store front on the corner where Dalhousie Street and Hill Street meet, dedicated volunteers led a yearlong programme of events and activities during 1990. During this time, the organization gathered documentation and materials relating to its activities and following consultation with the local community and women’s groups across Glasgow, opened Glasgow Women’s Library in September 1991.
This event is a part of a Glasgow City Council project to explore the histories and potential futures of Sauchiehall Street
