We’re really excited to have artist Ailie Rutherford and the FEN Library in our space this Spring and Summer. Ailie is working with us in visualising the complex nature of work for many women* juggling multiple jobs and is inviting participants with experience of this juggling work to join her.

This work is part of an innovative research project funded by the Nuffield Foundation and based at the University of Glasgow exploring the experiences of women who have at least two or more paid jobs and examining the inter-relationships between women’s paid and unpaid work, care responsibilities, and health and wellbeing. The project provides the opportunity to explore this phenomenon and make recommendations to improve women’s working lives and related areas.

As part of this we have invited Ailie Rutherford as an artist whose practice is grounded in feminist economics, creating participatory artworks that connect women’s lived experiences with feminist theory.

Ailie will be hosting a series of workshops through May and June, on thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons, in our event space, inviting women to map out their multiple roles and responsibilities, to take part in conversations about women’s labour and think together about how we might move towards a more equal economic system. The results of their collaborative thinking will be part of an exhibition in our Autumn programme.

The event is free and for women only* (16+). Travel and expenses are available, to attend and for more details, please email caroline.gausden@womenslibrary.org.uk. This event is part of a series and we encourage you to sign up for more than one if you can.
