Glasgow Women’s Library has been collecting Muriel Spark’s work since its inception in 1991. Glasgow School of Art Illustration students have been mining the collection to create new works inspired by her dark, humorous and lushly evocative works.
Twenty three Muriel Spark books have been explored in a series of 12” square letterpress and collograph prints and in a set of wraparound screen printed book jackets and will be on display at GWL showcasing the first collaboration of this kind between GWL and GSA.
We will celebrate the launch of Making Sparks on Thursday 24th May from 6pm to 7.30pm during our Summer Programme Launch. The exhibition continues until Monday 30th July and you can visit during GWL opening hours.
Throughout 2018 we will be marking 100 years since Muriel Spark’s birth. To find out about other events in the Muriel Spark 100 programme at GWL please see here. For more information on Muriel Spark 100 events around the country see here.
This exhibition is free to attend and there is no need to book. For opening times see the ‘Where to Find Us’ section of the website.
Our gallery spaces are located across multiple parts of the building. Please ask at Front of House for more information or directions when you are here. Sometimes our programme of events, or venue hires, may limit access to particular parts of the building. Although we always do our best to ensure you can visit the full exhibition when you are here, if you are making a special trip out and want to check which areas are open, please call us in advance on 0141 550 2267. We always ensure there is full access to exhibitions on our Warm Welcome Saturdays, and Mondays are also usually quieter with fewer events taking place.
