What role does Scots language play in poetry for and about women in Scotland? A potent tool in relaying the triumphs and plights of this country’s women?
Poets from three generations, award-winning schoolgirl Oriana Strahan, inspirational poet and Scots language advocate Len Pennie, renowned writer, actress and director Gerda Stevenson, and the Scottish Book Trust’s Scots New Writers Award winner Samantha Dooey-Miles, will read samples of their work and discuss the links between womanhood, power and the use of the Scots language. They will investigate Scots as a potent tool in relaying the triumphs and plights of this country’s women in their own and others’ writing.
The audience will have the opportunity to submit questions and comments to the authors.
The event is supported by the Open University in Scotland, Education Scotland and the Scottish Book Trust, three organisations promoting the learning and use of the Scots language in all walks of life.
