A Multicultural Rabbie Burns Afternoon Tea With a Twist!

Join Glasgow Women’s Library for an afternoon tea to celebrate Burns Night with readings of his poetry in different languages including Urdu & Arabic, multicultural folklore and storytelling from around the globe!

Rabbie Burns Afternoon Tea With a Twist, Sunday 23rd of January, 2pm to 3pm, Free, In Person, Pollockshields Burgh Hall.

 

From traditional ballads and romantic songs to humorous satires and thought-provoking poems, Robert Burns’ work is celebrated worldwide. Known for his love of Scotland, he often included landmarks and places in his writing. Looking towards Scottish women in poetry, we also want to celebrate their permanent place on the cultural map after many years of neglect.

 

Featuring special guests:

Rahit Zahid: Scottish based Urdu Poet who was the first person to translate the famous ‘Auld Lang Syne’ into Urdu with her work being displayed at the Mitchell Library. She has went on to translate further work of Burns in Urdu which will be published later on this year.

 

Shamshad Ghani: A women of many talents including singing, will be sure to get you off your seat for singalong to Auld Lang Syne in Punjabi!

 

Dress code:

Any attire with a splash of Tartan (optional)!

 

Refreshments:

Afternoon tea will include a selection of teas, veggie haggis pakora, rosewater & pistachio shortbread, and other tasty treats!
