An newspaper article following the fight to gain access to the Pink Paper, a Lesbian and Gay newspaper which Glasgow Libraries restricted access to under Section 28. The Lesbian Avengers and Glasgow Women’s Library Staff protested outside The Mitchell Library to demand that they make the newspaper freely available. The article features a quote from Sue John, one of the founders of Glasgow Women’s Library.
This protest led directly to a relationship with Glasgow City Council, who later commissioned Glasgow Women’s Library to do studies on the effects of homophobia and poverty on the lives of LGBTQ+ folk in Glasgow. Less than a decade after this protest Glasgow Women’s Library hosted an exhibition on Section 28 inside the Mitchell Library.
