Due to a fantastic response to our callout for poetry slam competitors, there will now be a deadline of 5pm, Tuesday 14th June for potential participants to contact us. Names will be drawn after that and the successful 12 performers will be contacted by Friday 17th June.
We’re looking forward to the second Harpies, Fechters and Quines All Woman Poetry Slam taking place at Out of the Blue Cafe, The Drill Hall, Edinburgh on Thursday 23rd June2016 6pm-9pm, and we’re looking for new and more experienced performance poets to strut their stuff on the night for our 3 judges and lucky audience. Each performer has to do one entertaining 3-4 minute slot at the beginning and if you progress onto the next 2 rounds you will need another 2 x 3-4 minute poems which you are able to deliver. Poet Jenny Lindsay will be hosting the night. There will be a small prize for the winner and they also have the option to go on and compete in the Scottish National Slam Championships. You don’t have to be a professional performer – this is suitable for relative beginners and non professionals – it’s an ideal chance to have a go and test your performance skills at a friendly event for woman performers only.
Booking is essential. If you’re interested and want to book a spot in the limelight or would like more information, get in touch with Morag Smith on info@womenslibrary.org.uk or telephone 0141 550 2267. You could also come along to Jenny’s performance poetry workshop on Monday 20th to get some practice.
For more information see our events page for June.
We are able to offer travelling expenses for performers where appropriate.
The theme for the Harpies Fechters and Quines festival 2016 is Women Around the World in Edinburgh and the festival runs in Edinburgh from 13th – 25th June.
