Creative Writing Support Group – Book review by Stella Howell

To encourage Stella, the newest member of our writing group with her creativity, I offered to post this book review of hers.  This sounds like a great read and an author we should try to have on our shelves. Our supportive and lively group meets roughly once a month on a Monday afternoon and is great place to chat to other writers, share your writing, pick up tips and inspiration and  try a writing exercise to get the juices flowing! For more information contact Donna Moore or myself (Jay) at the library.

Like This, For Ever by Sharon Bolton (Corgi 2013)

I absolutely loved this crime novel, which is set in present day London, as several young boys are abducted and killed.

The book was fresh and fast moving, and administered a fresh dose of fear!

The book centres on 11 year-old Barney Roberts, who is often left alone by his single parent father. The murders take place at times his father is out and Barney begins to suspect him.

Barney’s interest in the case grows as he becomes closer to a policewoman who is showing a disturbing, dark side as we read of her counselling sessions.

The killer is also posting on social networks, pre-empting the deaths, which was a twist I enjoyed.

This was a great and surprising read which truly kept me reading. – Stella Howell.
