Seriously Sassy

Seriously Sassy by Maggi Gibson

Sassy Wilde is a 13 year old girl, who writes and sings songs about the stuff she cares about. She lives at home with her parents, 9 year old little sister Pip and their dog Brewster. She is passionate about environmental issues and when she hears that the council are planning to turn Bluebell woods into a building site, she tells all her classmates, and encourages them to help her try and stop the construction from going ahead. Her father isn’t too pleased when he hears about what she is up to as he is a candidate in the elections for local councillor. Sassy thinks that this will be a good advantage for her and her friends, if her dad wins then he could stop the construction from happening. But it’s not just the construction and her father running in the election that’s on her mind, she has a crush on a boy called Magnus, who is one of her classmates and when she gets invited to a party that Magnus is also going to, she begs her mum to let her go but she refuses.

Later that night when her parents are asleep, she sneaks out of the house and goes to the party, shortly after she arrives; she sees her crush, Magnus, holding hands with her worst enemy, Megan so she storms out of the party. When she leaves, she hears someone shouting something at her so she turns around to see a boy standing at the window but she’s so annoyed at Magnus and Megan that she ignores him. As she approaches her own home she hears footsteps behind her and when she turns around she realises that it is the same boy from earlier

and he introduces himself Twig, Megan’s step brother. Twig walks her home and when she returns, she discovers that Pip is awake and she begs her not to tell their parents that she disobeyed their rules to not go out.

A few days later, she hears that the rest of the election candidates are in town to discuss the planning of the construction at Bluebell woods, Sassy rushes home to get her guitar and when she returns she informs her classmates of her plan and together they all go to the woods and climb up on to the trees, Sassy starts to sing one of the songs that she’s written and eventually the rest of the school join her and her classmates in the woods, just in time for the arrival of the other candidates…and her father. Can they stop the construction from going ahead and save Bluebell woods?
