An update on our move

We haven’t yet relocated and are still open here at Berkeley Street, but planning is well under way for our move:

Glasgow Women’s Library is at a very exciting stage in its development.

In 2013 GWL will relocate to Bridgeton Library on Landressy Street, in the heart of Glasgow’s increasingly vibrant East End. After five years in temporary accommodation we will finally make a permanent home in this stunning 1906 Grade B Listed Carnegie Library.

GWL staff are working with Collective Architecture on plans for the renovation and refurbishment of Bridgeton Library

The building was identified as an option for GWL by Glasgow Life as a result of the relocation of their public library service into the refurbished Olympia Building. With the support of Clyde Gateway we are working hard to raise money for the essential renovations needed to make Bridgeton Library fully fit for our purposes.

GWL is working with Collective Architecture and, with Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent now in place, the designs are looking good!

At the moment we are still confirming the timescales for the relocation and phased renovation works, so please keep checking our website for details.

We want to create premises of excellence that befit a unique and innovative resource in Scotland, renowned for our warm welcome and ‘special ingredient’ that makes GWL a library like no other.

Please keep up to date with our progress and, in the meantime, you can help us to get one step closer to realising our dream:

Support GWL’s Future with Women on the Shelf

You can help GWL to raise vital funds towards making our new permanent home fit-for-purpose and accessible: We urgently need to raise money for renovations and fit-out costs and need your support!

Women on the Shelf is an ideal way to stake your claim and invest in the future of the Women’s Library. It also has another purpose: it gives you the opportunity to dedicate a part of the Women’s Library premises to a woman of your choice, building a living, working tribute to the great (but often neglected or hidden) women in Scotland.

For £10 you can sponsor an individual book, or for £100 you can sponsor a shelf and dedicate it to a woman of your choice. You can also sponsor an entire section of the Library for £1,000.
