Auction of Pleasures goes behind the scenes at St Andrew’s

The Auction of Pleasures is starting to feel more of a reality. We’ve had a productive brainstorming session to get some ideas down, made up some postcards to start the roll of the marketing ball and this morning we went to Saint Andrew’s in the Square where the event is going to happen. It’s the sort of building that really twinkles thanks to the chandeliers, fairy lights and gilded architraves.

It was set up for a wedding taking place in the afternoon which only fuelled our excitement as we did not need to visualise what it would look like all ready to go. As we were discussing the night we drifted onto the subject of the history and renovation of the building. Veronica Low, the Development Director asked us if we’d like to see up inside the tower and onto the roof. Er, yes please! What a treat that was.

We snuck through a little door in the entrance hall and up a narrow, stone staircase that wound around the walls of the tower. Once you’re in the tower a slightly scarier-looking wooden staircase takes over and continues to spiral up to the top. We went up some more, through to the boiler room and out of an even smaller door onto the roof of the church. The sun was out, beautiful views over Glasgow… really the only thing missing was a G&T and maybe a string quartet.

As you can tell we had a lovely time made all the more pleasurable by Veronica’s enthusiasm for the place. It got us thinking about all the amazing buildings in Glasgow and the secrets they hold that only staff members get the pleasure of seeing on a regular basis. I would certainly bid a few pounds to get some behind-the-scenes tours. If you can think of any places you’d love to get a look at, or indeed you’ve seen some nooks and crannies that others might like, please let us know!

I’m looking forward to really getting things moving. It’s one thing to keep talking about all the amazing things that are going to happen and another one entirely to make them happen. That said, I’d better be off!

What's your pleasure?
