Glasgow Women’s Library presents an exploration of women’s writing from medieval & modern Scotland by Drs Sarah Dunnigan and Kate Louise Mathis (University of Edinburgh).

Join us for a live performance and discussion of poetry from Highlands & Lowlands, from Shetland to the Borders, composed in both Scots & Gaelic by women from a wide variety of social backgrounds, whether for circulation in print or private contemplation.

Cuiridh sinn sùil air sgrìobhadairean agus sgrìobhadh air a bhrosnachadh leis na h-atharraichean mòra a thàinig air cruth-tìre na h-Alba bho na meadhan aoisean gus Mòr-chaochladh a’ Ghnìomhachais agus nas fhaide air adhart.

Showcasing new research conducted for Leverhulme-funded project ‘Women’s Poetry in Ireland, Scotland & Wales 1400-1800’ (Aberystwyth University, University of Edinburgh & NUI Galway), we will consider writers and writing inspired by the dramatic alterations to Scotland’s cultural landscape in the period encompassing the Middle Ages to the Industrial Revolution and beyond.

This event will include a live performance by Alasdair C. Whyte: a native of the Inner Hebridean island of Mull, he is currently based in Glasgow where he is working on a PhD in Celtic and Gaelic at the University of Glasgow. With a keen interest in traditional songs, Alasdair also composes his own.
