Women of the Gorbals Heritage Walk

Our sell out women’s heritage walks, led by our volunteer tour guides, show Glasgow’s neighbourhoods in a new light, making visible the often hidden and overlooked contributions women have made to the city.

Women of the Gorbals Heritage Walk, Saturday 9th July, 2pm to 4pm, £6/10, 16+
This guided walk will take you on a time travelling journey, from the Napoleonic Wars to modern day New Gorbals, highlighting the Suffragettes, Jewish and Asian immigrants, hawkers, and weavers who have inhabited the area over the centuries.

*** Please note that a small film crew of two people from Two Rivers Media will be attending this walk to record our tour guides for an upcoming documentary series for BBC Scotland called ‘The Women Who Changed Modern Scotland’ (working title) which will focus on the stories of women from all walks of life – from cultural leaders to entrepreneurs, politicians, artists, activists, and scientists – who have shaped Scotland over the past 50 years.
Booking
This event is open to all. There are two ticket options for this event: a £10 ticket and a £6 ticket. Our walks raise funds for the Library. Please choose the ticket which you feel most able to pay. We offer the £6 ticket if you are a Friend of GWL. All places must be paid for in advance as tour guides are not able to handle money on the day of the walk. Select the number of tickets you want to book below, or come in to the Library to book.
A week before the walk we will email all those who’ve booked with information including the meeting point for the walk. Please check your spam or junk email folders if you have not received this in your inbox. We ask that you do not bring dogs other than guide dogs along on the walks. Accessibility
This walk takes place on pavements around the Gorbals and is not very hilly. If you’d like to speak to someone about the walk in advance and let us know your access needs, please contact us – we are happy to answer any questions.
