Trailblazing Women of Science
17th June, 2016, 2:00pm to 3:00pm
Free – £2.00Catherine Booth, curator of science collections in the National Library of Scotland has been rooting out some fascinating stories of Scottish female scientists of the past. These women regularly met discrimination as they attempted to pursue their chosen careers. Despite this, they made outstanding achievements – yet their names are still largely unknown.
Trailblazing Women of Science, Friday 17th June, 2pm to 3pm
Come and hear about a woman who:
- managed to keep a ship under way while under heavy enemy bombardment
- earned money to release her husband from prison, only for him to be executed later
- discussed marine biology with the Emperor of Japan
- used her sewing machine to help teach mathematics to visually impaired students
- is still thought of as one of the most influential women in the history of science
We are proud to celebrate them all.
