What: Refugee Festival – Knitting A Community and Museum without a Home
When: Monday 18th June, 12:30 – 5pm
Where: Garnethill Multicultural Centre, then subway to Glasgow City Chambers
Who With: Freya
Why should you join us: We will be going to the Garnethill Multicultural Centre to join Knit for Unity: Across the Globe to share stories of movement and knitting as part of Refugee Festival Scotland. The group is exploring Scotland’s needlework heritage with Mrs Magooty, a bead and craft shop who run creative workshops. Knitting needles and wool will be provided to make a square, and we will get some light refreshments here.
Then we will head down to Cowcadden’s subway station and get the subway one stop to Buchanan Street and walk round to Glasgow City Chambers to see the exhibition ‘Museum Without a Home’. Museum Without a Home is an award-winning free exhibition promoting solidarity with migrants. Originally shown in Athens, it has since travelled the world, and exhibits real objects that were donated to people in need of protection, to comfort them and help make the difficulties of daily life more manageable.
This trip is for women only and is free to attend. Travel expenses will be covered up to £5. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call the library on 0141 550 2267 to book your place. If you have booked a place and are no longer able to attend please let us know.
