Seeing Things: Until Rainbow Dawn @ SQUIFF

8th December, 2018, 12:15pm to 2:15pm

Seeing things

Seeing Things is a group that meet up to see art, performances and cultural events put on by women across Glasgow and beyond. We think it’s more fun to go to see things together, and we usually have a cup of tea or coffee afterwards.  Our trips are always free. It would be great if you could come along!

What: Film screening of Until Rainbow Dawn as part of Scottish Queer International Film Festival

When: Saturday December 8th, 12.15 – 14.15

Where: Centre for Contemporary Arts, 350 Sauchiehall Street, G2 3JD (We will meet in the foyer at 12.15, before the film starts at 12.30)

Who With: Mattie & Doreen

Why you should join us:

From an exciting line-up at SQUIFF this year we’ve chosen Until Rainbow Dawn to attend with Seeing Things.

Made by a majority Deaf cast and crew, Until Rainbow Dawn is a remarkable, authentic story of queer Deaf Japanese culture.

About two young women (Ayumi & Hana) meeting at their Deaf school in Central Japan, becoming close friends, and falling in love. After Hana comes out to her parents and is thrown out of her house, Ayumi takes Hana along to a queer Deaf meetup in Tokyo, where they meet and befriend a supportive group of trans, gay and lesbian Deaf people who tell them their own personal stories.

SQIFF (Scottish Queer International Film Festival) was formed with the aim of adding to the exciting and growing amount of queer film stuff happening around Scotland. Their goal is to screen movies that people might not otherwise get a chance to see and to create inspiring and informative events alongside challenging inequality.

ACCESS

The film is in Japanese and Japanese sign languages with simultaneous Japanese and English subtitles/captions. There is a hearing loop available.

The film relies a lot on visual material to convey ideas and uses almost all Japanese sign language, so is less accessible for blind and partially sighted audiences. Large print versions of handouts are available.

CCA has good access for wheelchair users. Click here for more details on venue access.

Comfy seating (bean bags) available.

If you have any questions or access requirements please contact mattie.roberts@womenslibrary.org.uk
