In Her Shoes: Lesbian Lives

28th January, 2017, 2:00pm to 4:00pm

“When a woman tells the truth she is creating the possibility for more truth around her.” – Adrienne Rich

This series of In Her Shoes workshops invites you to consider the realities of lesbian lives, identity, culture, history, and politics.

Through discussing experiences in a supportive environment, relating the personal to the political, and celebrating lesbian culture, these workshops will explore positive solutions to discrimination.

You are welcome to attend as many or as few workshops as you would like.

Workshop 1: What is it to be a lesbian today? This workshop considers representations of lesbians in popular culture, the connection between how we are depicted by the media and what we experience in everyday life. Bring along books, films, or magazines to discuss!

Workshop 2: Lesbian herstory and identity. Glasgow Women’s Library is home to the Lesbian Archive, a vibrant collection of lesbian herstory. Learn about your lesbian foremothers and connect their stories to your own.

Workshop 3: Lesbian feminism. Solidarity between women, and alternatives to the status quo. Explore lesbian feminism’s rich herstory of theory and activism, and find ways to apply those methods to your own life.

Workshop 4: Consciousness-raising. Whether you’ve had more consciousness-raising sessions than hot dinners or lament missing out on the most significant parts of second-wave feminism, this workshop is for you. Connect your truth to other women’s truths and resist structures of power.

Open to women who identify as lesbian.
