From the bustle of Sauchiehall Street to quiet and leafy back streets, this bohemian enclave is full of surprises and has been home to many remarkable women who have made Garnethill one of the most exciting cultural and multicultural hotspots in Glasgow.

More information about this and other GWL Women’s Heritage Walks, including downloadable maps and audio tours, is available here and you can see all our upcoming heritage walks here.

Interesting and engaging from start to finish.  Enjoyed hearing from all the guides. Their enthusiasm really comes across.” – Heritage Walk participant

Meeting Point: We meet near the CCA on Sauchiehall Street. Please do not arrive without having booked your place in advance as tour guides are not able to take payment, and the walk may be full. Bookings close on the Friday prior to the women’s heritage walk.

Covid-19 information: We are reducing the number of bookings for this event to ensure that social distancing is possible while not being too far away from each other! We will communicate any further health and safety information (along with the meeting point) closer to the event.

Booking

Booking has now closed for this event

This event is open to all. There are two ticket options for this event: a £10 ticket and a £6 ticket. Our walks raise funds for the Library. Please choose the ticket which you feel most able to pay. We offer the £6 ticket if you are a Friend of GWL. All places must be paid for in advance as tour guides are not able to handle money on the day of the walk. Select the number of tickets you want to book below, or come in to the Library to book.

A week before the walk we will email all those who’ve booked with information including the meeting point for the walk. Please check your spam or junk email folders if you have not received this in your inbox. We ask that you do not bring dogs other than guide dogs along on the walks. Should you need to cancel a booking for any reason please see our Women’s Heritage Walks Cancellation Policy. Should the event be cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions tickets will be refunded in full.

Accessibility

This walk takes place on pavements around Garnethill and also crosses Garnethill Park where there are steps. This is a hilly area and some sections are steep whilst not all pavements have banisters. Our guides are happy to recommend and accompany attendees on different flatter routes to each stop, where possible. If you’d like to speak to someone about the walk in advance and let us know your access needs, please contact us – we are happy to answer any questions.

Large print versions of the tour guides’ scripts are available on the day.
