22nd September, 2019 at 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Our sell out women’s heritage walks, led by our volunteer tour guides, show Glasgow’s neighbourhoods in a new light, making visible the often hidden and overlooked contributions women have made to the city. Pick up a Stamp as you Stomp loyalty card, do all 6 of our walks and get a very special Women Make history treat! Large print versions of the tour guides’ scripts are available on the day.
East End Women’s Heritage Walk, Sunday 22nd September, 2pm to 4pm, Meet at GWL, 16+
The women of the East End have always had to be resourceful and industrious simply to survive. This walking tour focuses on some of their achievements and struggles, and the radical nature of the area which gave birth to them. Learn about the women of the Templeton factory, the suffragettes, the brazen women of Glasgow Green, Battling Betty, the woman who set up the Barras and many, many more!
“We all thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learned a lot about women who have made huge contributions, but been invisible” – Walk participant
This walk is free as part of the Glasgow Doors Open Days festival. Please see information on booking below.
Meeting Point: We meet at GWL and you can see how to find us here.
This event is open to all and is free to attend. Please book through Glasgow Doors Open via their website here: http://www.glasgowdoorsopendays.org.uk/
We will also have some first come first serve places available on the day at GWL, so please come along if you’re interested in attending the walk. If there aren’t places available, we will be doing a GWL Doors Open Tour at 2pm and 3pm and so there’ll be lots to do instead!
