Green’s Playhouse, the New Bedford Picture House, the Cosmo, the Olympia, the Scotia, the Rex… Gathering up jeely jars for the thruppeny entrance; queueing around the block to see Gracie Fields, Carole Lombard, Deanna Durbin and Cary Grant; and buying a plate of peas before heading home on the tram…

This special Creative Writing for Fearties session is led by Dr Sarah Neely, writer and film historian, from the Cinema Memory and the Digital Archive project, and GWL’s Donna Moore. Take part in writing exercises using audio recordings of memories of cinema-going in Glasgow in the 1930s! We’ll also use archive items including movie magazines, film star cigarette cards and other cinema-related memorabilia from the time.

To receive your own wee surprise piece of 1930s film memorabilia in the post, which will also act as one of the creative writing prompts on the day, please sign up by Wednesday 25th November for the December workshop (don’t worry if you can’t sign up in time, you can still take part in the writing exercise on the day!).

You can come to one workshop, or both! Book on to the January workshop here.

This workshop is being held as part of Cinema Memory and the Digital Archive, a three-year research project between Lancaster University, Queen Mary University of London, and the University of Glasgow. Find out more on Twitter @cinema_memory.

This is one of our “take part” events this Autumn!
