Collecting in the Time of Coronavirus, Tuesday 1st September to Thursday 17th December, visit during GWL opening hours

Like so many others, the Glasgow Women’s Library team has been working from home since March but our museum and archive collections have continued to grow. During the COVID-19 lockdown we were contacted by first-time donors and long-time champions keen to share and preserve a part of their personal histories during this momentous period.

But what shapes our collections? Why do people choose to gift materials to us? What can we learn from the stories behind the artefacts? How has the pandemic impacted our donors? And why do we feel it’s critical to collect women’s accounts at this time?

From handmade masks, feminist perfumes and Roller Derby t-shirts to items supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, discover how gifts from donors in the time of Coronavirus have helped us develop our unique collections and document the diverse perspectives of women across Scotland and beyond.

Some of the material donated, and the stories behind them, can be explored in our online exhibition.
