Boiler Watch

The old boiler! It looks like four orange boxes arranged two on top the other.
The old GWL boiler, installed circa 1990.

At GWL, we pride ourselves on our warm welcome. This meant that when our vintage boiler decided to show signs of giving up, it was a priority for us to get it replaced.

This replacement is now well underway, which means we’re temporarily without a main source of heating for our historic Carnegie library.

We initially expected that the boiler works would take 6 weeks to complete but, due to some flue maladies, the works have been delayed.

Currently, the GWL spaces are being heated by temporary heaters but because our building is large and old, it can sometimes make it feel rather cold.  We have a supply of blankets and the kettle is always on for a warming cup of tea but, just in case, we recommend warm layers on your next visit to see us.

As part of the boiler works, we will now be closed on Saturday 9th November.

This is to allow electricians access to various parts of the building. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but promise it will result in a warmer GWL in the future! We hope we won’t have any further closures but recommend checking our website for up to date information when you next visit.

The new system will be much more efficient than our 1960’s-vintage boiler and will help us to run a more cost effective space. We can’t wait to bring you a toasty warm GWL in the near future!
