5 Reasons to Visit the Library Before the End of the Year

We’ve officially entered the cold months of the year. The clocks have changed, the days are darker and here at the library we think it’s the perfect time to come and see what we have to offer. Here are five good reasons why you should brave the cold and the dark and head over to the Glasgow Women’s Library:

  1. Right now the library is hosting the Tall Tales exhibition – a showcase of seventeen female artists from around the world. Their work explores the playful pull between reality and fiction, in beautiful and uncanny ways. The exhibition is in event spaces at the library until the 21st of December. Now is the perfect time to come along and enjoy it before we all get too busy in the holiday season.
  2. It’s all too tempting to hide away during the winter and try to hibernate through to spring. Instead let us tempt you with some fantastic events. This December there are various exciting things to come and take part in. There are two Story Cafes left before the end of December, on the 8th and the 15th. Come listen to stories with a hot drink and join in the discussion. Drama Queens: Play Reading for Pleasure is on the 8th as well. Get involved in a dramatic reading and have fun! Pride against Prejudice: Women Writing Disability and Acts of Activism and Rebellion are both part of the In Her Shoes project which works to allow women to be heard and take part in activism, discussion and storytelling. They take place on the 3rd of December and the 6th of December respectively.

  3. Books! If the idea of coming out to events doesn’t appeal, then come a stock up on some great reading material and while away the winter with your favourite author or someone new. Becoming a member is completely free, a world of books is waiting to help you through the dark months.
  4. The library shop offers a beautiful collection of merchandise for sale, all exclusively designed for the Glasgow Women’s Library. There are badges, zines, tote bags, postcards and many other items for sale, all perfect as gifts for loved ones. If you prefer your Christmas presents to have a more charitable impact there is also the possibility of becoming a friend of the library, where a small monthly donation ensures that the good work continue for years to come. You also get some wonderful treats on top of the warm fuzzy feeling of doing a good deed.
  5. Outside it’s dark and cold but here at the library it’s warm and bright! Come and say hello and enjoy a warm drink and a cosy building on a cold day. You never know, you might find the book or event that makes your year.
