Volunteering Opportunities at the Library

Volunteering is a great opportunity to get involved with the Library. We have a range of interesting projects you can be involved in where you can learn new things, meet new people, make good use of your skills and experience, while making valuable contributions to your community.

We are looking for support in the following areas, do you think you could help?

Women’s Heritage Walk Tour Guides

Walk4Women, 280713 027Summer is the perfect time to sign up as a Women Make History tour guide. Being a tour guide is a fun and interesting way to support the Library and the work that we do. No previous tour guiding experience is necessary, just an enthusiasm for women’s history. You would start by attending the walks in the current programme, meeting with the current tour guides, and assisting on the walks by handing out images and assisting the tour guides. Then at your own pace you would gradually take on presenting stops on the walks as you become a fully fledged Women Make History Tour guide.

Marketing Support for our Women’s Heritage Walks

Please note: We have now recruited a volunteer who will be supporting us with the promotion of our heritage walks from August 2014, so are no longer looking for support in this area.

Our heritage walks take place throughout Spring and Summer, and are a source of income generation for the Library. We are looking for someone with marketing experience to assist us in making new links and finding new avenues for promoting these walks. Connecting with tourism, festivals, and conferences and building on relationships with key people and organisations to ensure that our walks are attended by a range of people from around the world.

Library Out Loud: Content Management System Support

Please note: We are lucky to have a new volunteer in the Library supporting our Library Out Loud work from July 2014, so are no longer looking for support in this area. At the Library we have developed a content management system called Library Out Loud. This system is at the centre of our work and is where we log all our events, bookings, feedback, mailing lists, monitoring and evaluation (amongst other things). We are looking for someone to assist with the data entry elements making sure that the system is up to date. This would be ideally suited to someone who enjoys admin and has good attention to detail, has experience using databases and generally good IT skills. This volunteer will gain a unique insight into the activities of the Library and the feedback that we get from Library users and event attendees. You will be given training in the Library Out Loud systems.

Check out our video made by volunteers at the Library about what being a GWL volunteer means to them to think about how being a volunteer could benefit you.
