Stag’s leap (poem)

A ‘Reading for Wellbeing’ recommended read

Stag’s leap by Sharon Olds

This poem is a bit of a ‘hard’ read since it graphically and metaphorically deals with marital betrayal and abandonment. The poem is spoken by a narrator who is speaking about her husband leaving her. Why is this poem a potential source of well-being? The narrator has plumbed the depths but seems to be surfacing, gathering all her courage to describe the ‘real’, she has managed to mine generosity and compassion from the situation and articulates how she can see that letting go of her husband is both necessary and freeing.
