Latest volunteering opportunity…

Are you interested in promoting women’s wellbeing and encouraging them to celebrate their lives and share their stories with others?

We are looking for volunteers to help with our new Personal History Tours project aimed at  women in Castlemilk and the Gorbals.  This project will support 20 women to create personal history tours in their local area, involving walking and storytelling.

This role will involve:

-meeting women on a one to one basis

– encouraging them to plan a walk in their local area

-supporting them to document 6 landmarks that tells their story

-recording or scribing their stories

Volunteers should have great communication skills, experience or and interest in community work, the ability to motivate and encourage women to talk about themselves, lots of energy and the ability to work of their own initiative!

Days and time are flexible and might change from week to week.  This project will run from January to March 2012.  Volunteering will take place in the Gorbals and Castelmilk so volunteers should be willing to travel; however all travel costs will be covered including any meetings at GWL).

If you are interested or would like more information please get in touch.  We would love to hear from you!

Hi, this sounds like a great opportunity if you are still looking for volunteers. I am currently in my fourth year of a history Honours degree at Strathclyde University, Glasgow. I feel my skills which have developed in dealing with history documents and in collecting information for essays and my dissertation (where I used the GWL archive) would contribute well to this project. I would love to become involved in this project (and others too!).
Hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Elaine Foley

Hello

Thank you so much for your interest in volunetering with us. If you’re still interested the first thing to do would be to fill in an application form and email it to me. Then we can meet up at the library so that you can find out a bit more and tell me more about what you’d like to get out of volunteering with us. Or do get in touch if you have other questions or concerns, or would like to fill out the application form together.
Thank you again for getting in touch.

Gabrielle
