WMH Film Night: You Play Your Part & Red Skirts

Please note that this event is now fully booked.

Part of our Women Make History workshops programme we are having a film night, watching 2 shorts films based on the Govan Rent strikes: Red Skirts on Clydeside and You Play Your Part.

Thursday 18 August, 6pm to 7.30pm

Red Skirts on Clydeside: In 1915, a year into the First World War, landlords in Glasgow put up tenement rents. Women in Govan responded with a rent strike. In Red Skirts on Clydeside, directors Jenny Woodley and Christine Bellamy chart the careers of Jean Ferguson, Mary Barbour and Helen Crawford Agnes Dollan through their involvement in the strike.

You Play Your Part: Twenty-seven years after the original film was made, Govan women reflect on their lives and roles by the Clyde in a unique collaborative women’s history film project led by filmmaker, Kirsten MacLeod, in association with Plantation Productions and the University of the West of Scotland.

Women who made the documentary You Play Your Part will be available for Q & A after film screening.

This event is £3/free concession. Please use the booking form below to reserve your place. If you don’t have a GWL number you can join the Library using the form here.
