The women of the WEA Clydebank group have been meeting for many years every Wednesday morning. GWL visited them recently as part of the National Lifelong Learning Development Project and discovered a wealth of experience and fascinating stories. We talked about the lives of many women in Clydebank, including Mary Preston who worked as a crane operator during the war, Jenny Hyslop ex-air raid warden and veteran campaigner who lived in Clydebank until her death in 1989 and Jane Rae, suffragette, councillor and political activist to name but a few.

The group will be doing a workshop session with GWL in January and it’s hoped that this will be the start of developing a new women’s heritage walk. We’re really excited about discovering the lives and histories of some amazing Clydebank women.
