Receptionist

Volunteer role: GWL Receptionist
Type of work: Administration, Meet and Greet, General Support
Supervision: Varies
Average weekly hours required: From 7 hours, daytime
Minimum period of volunteering required: 3 months

Volunteer tasks description:

As the GWL receptionist volunteer you will be the first point of contact for people calling or visiting the library. There will be a brief induction period where you will find out about the various projects in the library, past and present, and you will get to meet the team and find out what the various roles are in the library.

Tasks will include:

  • Meeting and greeting visitors
  • Answering the telephones
  • Taking messages for staff members
  • Answering the door/buzzer
  • Welcoming people to the library
  • Taking course and event bookings
  • Registering interest from learners
  • Assistance on GWL mailings
  • Assisting with preparation for events
  • Taking notes at various staff meetings
  • Post office runs
  • Badgemaking (training available)
  • General support for GWL staff

Essential skills and qualities required:

  • Confident and friendly telephone manner
  • Warm and welcoming manner
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Eager to learn
  • Flexible attitude
  • Some computer experience would be beneficial
  • Capable of working independantly
  • Adaptable to a range of different non-IT tasks
  • Eagerness to learn
