<p>Following the huge success of our West End Women’s Heritage Walk and Map the Women Make History team has made history again in developing the first podcast version of a women&#8217;s heritage walk in Glasgow.  This fantastic resource was launched on the Centenary Celebration of International Women’s Day </p>
<p>As part of the West End Festival Women Make History will be running the <strong>West End Women&#8217;s Heritage Silent Walk on Sunday 19 June 2011 at 2pm</strong></p>
<p>This podcast reveals a hidden history of the West End: from pipe-smoking forewomen to revolting schoolmistresses.  A unique and inspiring insight into the hitherto unsung women who made the West End. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As part of the <a href="http://www.westendfestival.co.uk/">West End Festival</a> join a Women Make History walking tour within Garnethill’s confined boundaries that spotlights the women who pioneered European art movements, designed the banners for suffragette processions, created the first (and only) women’s library in Scotland and made Garnethill into the most exciting cultural and multicultural hotspot in Glasgow.  </p>
<p><strong>Sunday 12 June 2011 at 2pm.<br />
Gather at Glasgow Women&#8217;s Library doorway, 15 Berkeley Street at 1.55pm<br />
Tickets £7.50 </strong></p>
<p>Walk lasts approximately 1 and a half hours, sensible walking shoes recommended. Contact the library for accessibility information.  </p>

<p>To coincide with the <a href="http://www.womenslibrary.org.uk/2009/06/wmh-westend-map-launch/">Launch of the new Map</a> version of this popular walk, our Women Make History tour guides welcome you on a free walk in the West End where you will discover the histories of pipe-smoking forewomen, revolting housewives, guerilla suffragettes and other unsung women who have helped to create Glasgow’s West End.</p>
<p>The walk is running twice as part of the 2009 West End Festival:</p>

<p>Women Make History launches a women’s heritage route map of Glasgow&#8217;s West End. </p>
<p>Following the success of our <a href="http://www.womenslibrary.org.uk/2009/06/westendheritagewalks/">Women&#8217;s Heritage Walks</a>, and by popular demand this map is designed to encourage anyone interested in exploring the hidden histories of the area. Meet the map’s creators and grab yourself a copy at this exciting launch event being held at Hillhead Library and Learning Centre, 348 Byres Road. </p>
