<p>Do you want to study interesting subjects in a friendly, women-only environment? </strong></p>
<p>Why not come and join Glasgow Women&#8217;s Library and Stow College from January 2011 on the Steps to Social Science and Care course. </p>
<li>No formal qualifications required
</li>
<li>No fees if you’re on benefits or a low income—help may also be available with childcare and travel expenses
</li>
<li>Study an interesting and unique course in a friendly, supportive environment.
</li>
<li>Gain accredited SQA units in Psychology and Research Skills</li>
<p>Steps to Social Science &#038; Care is delivered by Stow College in Glasgow Women’s Library premises at 15 Berkeley St.</p>
<p>The courses offer the chance to move on to further study in Women’s Studies, Social Sciences or Social Care. It could be a route into employment—or just the chance to try something different and meet some new people.</p>
<p>The classes run twice a week and will include an introduction into psychology and a research project. Don’t worry if it’s a while since you’ve studied—everyone is in the same boat, and there’s lots of help with essay writing, study skills and using the computer.</p>

<p><strong>Sociology- Socialisation</strong><br />
What type of society do we live in? Do you blame the parents—or the media—for the way young people behave? Are there different ‘rules’ for men and women?</p>
<p><strong>Psychology &#8211; The Individual in the Social Context</strong><br />
What makes us who we are? Are men and women always going to be different? Are women naturally more caring than men?</p>
<p><strong>History &#8211; Immigrants and Exiles</strong><br />
Focusing on the period between the 1830s and the 1930s, we look at who came to Scotland—and who left. Who were the women that fought the Highland Clearances? And what became of them in the New World?</p>
<p>Don’t worry if it’s been a while since you were last in education, the course is designed for women who have few or no formal qualifications, and there is plenty of help with study skills and communications.</p>
