Amnesty International’s ‘Celebrating Freedom of Expression’

For Refugee Week 2011 well-known authors stand in solidarity with writers who have had their right to freedom of expression violated and suffered persecution as a result of openly sharing their writing, thoughts and opinions. Today’s event celebrates the courage of individuals who have had to flee their own countries because of that persecution, and the issues facing refugees and asylum seekers in Scotland today. An Amnesty International event supported by Glasgow Women’s Library.

Women Writers Unite: The Journey

Women Writers Unite to examine the physical, emotional and spiritual journey which forms a pivotal part of most women’s lives. Authors Louise Welsh, Leela Soma, Joyce Ito and Sarah Ward share their own work, as well as the experiences of others on themes of migration, asylum, and the struggle to live across two very different cultures.
