Greenham Common in the Archive
This month not only marks the 20th anniversary of the founding of Glasgow Women’s Library but also it is 30 years since women arrived at RAF Greenham Common in Berkshire in order to oppose the siting of 96 nuclear cruise missiles at the base.
At the library we have some items relating to Greenham Common and other materials from the women’s peace movement including badges, music and leaflets.
Firebrand Women
GWL and WEA have teamed up to provide a programme of talks about women campaigners, this session is Second Wave Feminism and the Peace Movement: the strident women who strove for peace and women’s liberation . Taking place at Glasgow Women’s Library.
Knitting for Peace
Just found out about this rather remarkable ‘knitting action’, organised by the American organisation CODEPINK. For Mother’s Day (the American one, 10th May), they went to the White House with a massive quilt bearing the slogan “We will not raise our children to kill another mother’s child”.
