The Templeton Carpet FactoryWould you be interested in becoming a Women’s History Detective? Are you interested in unearthing and highlighting the achievements of women? We are looking for women to help us research two new Women’s Heritage Walks: one in the East End of Glasgow, the other capturing women’s involvement in and contributions to trade unions in the city. We are also looking for women to do reseach from home. If you are interested in either of these areas please contact the library.

Women Make History: East End Detectives
Starts Tuesday 17th April, 6pm to 7.30pm

These weekly informal sessions suitable for any level and supported by GWL staff looking into this rich area of women’s history in Glasgow’s East End. Are you interested in finding our more about the women who worked in the Templeton factory, Suffragettes who were held in Duke Street Prison, or maybe the woman who set up the Barras!

If you are interested but not sure what this involves then why not check out our One Small Step video below. You can then register your interest by booking on to the workshops here.

These sessions are free and supported by Historic Glasgow. Click here to book your place.

If you are interested in women’s history then perhaps you know of a memorial to a woman in your area that hasn’t been marked on our Women of Scotland map? Or maybe you know the story behind a name?  Maybe you’ll uncover some at these sessions. We want women across Scotland to go out and find the monuments, landmarks, street names and buildings that mark the lives and achievements of women (whether famous, humble or notorious) who have helped to shape Scotland. We are launching Mapping Monuments to Women on Saturday 10th March to mark International Women’s Day. Click here for more information.
