As we near the first anniversary of opening the doors of our beautiful new home to the public, we have been reflecting on what an exciting, memorable and successful year this has been. We are so proud to have won two major awards during this time and to have been Highly Commended for a further two prestigious titles.

It was thrilling to win the Arts & Business Scotland ‘Enterprising Museum of the Year’ Award 2013-14 (Sponsored by Museums Galleries Scotland) for our wonderful project, 21 Revolutions: Two Decades of Changing Minds.

The 21 Revolutions project was also Highly Commended in the Collections Trust UK national ‘Enterprise in Museums Award’ Category in June 2014 at a ceremony in London, attended by GWL’s Creative Development Manager, Adele Patrick.

Also at UK national level, we were honoured to be Highly Commended in the Women’s History Network Community Prize for another gem of a project: Badges of Honour: How Badge-Wearing Women Changed the World

Closer to home, it was a true priviledge to win The Jobs & Business Glasgow ‘Social Enterprise of the Year’ Award 2014 (Sponsored by the Wheatley Group). GWL’s Enterprise Development Manager, Sue John, collected the award at a glittering ceremony at the Glasgow City Chambers.

Each day at GWL we see the positive impact of our life-changing work on individual women, their families and broader communities – this is rewarding enough, but it is such a morale boost to be recognised and celebrated through these accolades.

So here’s to GWL and our soon-to-be-built trophy cabinet!
