Help to Keep Glasgow Women’s Library Running!

GWL’s Senior Managers, Sue John and Adele Patrick, have both enjoyed the experience of running the annual Glasgow Women’s 10K for the last 20 years and can boast a handful of Half Marathon medals each too. Neither of them has yet risen to the challenge of running a full 26.2 mile Marathon – but all that is about to change.

Sue and Adele decided early in 2014 to run the Loch Ness Marathon on 28th September to raise funds for GWL. Embarking on a 26 week training programme at the end of March, they are now bagging some serious mileage. Months of 6am starts, aching legs, a touch of Plantar Fasciitis and the almost inevitable Runners Toe have not daunted our determined pair as they have got to grips with knee supports, electrolyte isotonic drinks and the joys of eating Jelly Babies whilst running. Rumour has it they have even taken out subscriptions to running magazines – this is serious!

“It’s tough, and it hurts, but we are trying really hard and have stuck to our training programme so we hope it all pays off on the day. We drove along the route in May and it seemed never ending, so the idea of running that distance then was daunting. Now it feels more achievable”, says Sue.
Adele adds, “Most of all, we want to raise as much as possible to support the incredible work of GWL and we would be so overjoyed if could reach our fundraising target which, like everything else GWL undertakes, is ambitious!”

We’ll let you know how Sue and Adele get on. In the meantime, good luck!
