From books to running…

Maree helped out librarian Wendy with sorting and cataloguing books for about a year and writes here about how this experience helped her to find work in the field:

Short Story Week DM“I started volunteering with GWL to get some library/ information experience, purely to help me get a job in that area. I didn’t know much about the library beforehand, but am so glad I went for it. The staff were all friendly and welcoming and I was encouraged to attend other events like book groups and art exhibitions.

Since I have moved on, I have been lucky in getting a job in an information role. I was able to talk about my experience at GWL in my interview and am sure it helped. From having such a great time there, I also decided to keep volunteering in another area that I’m interested in – running. I have helped steward at and organise races and have become really involved in a running club, which I love! I probably wouldn’t have bothered if I hadn’t had such a good experience at GWL, and it certainly gave me confidence in deciding to joining a new group.”
