21 Revolutions Podcast: Jackie Kay

21 Revolutions Podcast 19 - Jackie Kay

In the nineteenth of our Glasgow Women’s Library podcasts Jackie Kay reads her 21 Revolutions pieces, Undercoat, Model House and Ingrid McClements’ Papers, and talks about her inspiration behind the work.

About 21 Revolutions

To mark the Library’s 21st anniversary in 2012, and with the support of funding from Creative Scotland and Museums Galleries Scotland, GWL commissioned 21 women writers and 21 women artists to create new work inspired by items and artefacts in our collections.

These new pieces of writing have drawn upon campaign badges, knitting patterns, Suffragette memorabilia, album covers, recipe books, feminist newsletters and other gems found within GWL’s thousands of archive boxes or amongst the hundreds of Library shelves. Find out more about the 21 Revolutions here or view the 21 Revolutions products you can buy from our shop.

I have felt the with which you sourced the library’ archives to compile this podcast. The sentiment within made me want to cry. You made the library sounds wonderful. A lovely place to visit. I am disabled and hope that one day some I will summon up the courage to some see the place and enjoy it’s warmth. You poetry is excellent and it inspired me to pick up a pen or type a poem on my laptop to once again put my feeling into words. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your heartfelt inner thoughts and experiences.
