Roller Skating all the way from Dom City

There have been some visitors skating into the Library. On Monday 28th August, the Archive received a lovely visit from Falke and Leticia. They had heard about the National Museum of Roller Derby, the most recent addition to GWL’s Collection, and wanted to come and visit us – all the way from the Netherlands! Both women are active members in the Dom City Roller Girls team and they were delighted that they were able to donate some of their material to the archive. Falke and Leticia had been on a roller derby holiday taking in roller derby bouts across Scotland, with their final stop being the National Museum of Roller Derby. It was great chatting with them and hearing about their roller derby adventures. As I’m a relatively newbie to the sport, it was fascinating to hear about their experiences. I also took the opportunity to show them material already donated to the archive. To their delight, they stumbled upon an article written about their team in Inside Line, a magazine for roller derby participants. Neither of them had read the article and they were excited about taking a copy back to show their team at home.

Leticia and Faulke show us their roller derby bout faces!

Thank you to Falke and Leticia for visiting us at the Library. We hope you come back again soon!

Want to find out more about roller derby? Then come along to GWL and visit our exciting exhibition ‘The Revolution on Roller Skates’ which showcases material donated to the National Museum of Roller Derby. It also gives a detailed introduction to the sport of roller derby that has been pioneered by women. The exhibition is open until 12th October, Monday – Friday 09.30 – 16.30.
